Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia clarified that she and her chief-of-staff remain free from Covid-19.

She made the clarification after rumors were circulated during the days that she did not conduct her reports aired live through Facebook.

“My chief-of-staff is not Covid-19 positive. He was admitted for dengue. He was swabbed and tested Covid-negative twice,” she said. Atty. Frank Eduard “Duke” Dinsay V, the governor’s chief-of-staff, has just recuperated from dengue hemorrhagic fever.

When the livestreaming of “Ang Probinsyana” went off air because of the scheduled disinfection of Capitol offices, rumors circulated that Dinsay is down with Covid-19 and so is the governor.

In her virtual presser today, July 9, Garcia told viewers that the livestream reports were put on hold because of her hectic schedule and the Capitol disinfection set from July 1 to 3.

Since news on Covid-19 broke out in January 2020, the governor had a series of consultative meetings with government agencies in defining protocols and mandatory public safety standards as Cebu Province went to Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and now to Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ).

“Nanga-Covid na kuno mi. You wish. Sorry ha? Nga wa ninyo makuha ang inyong gipangandoy. To clarify, Atty. Frank Dinsay nasakit og dengue. He was admitted sa Chong Hua Mandaue, gi-test siya sa Chong Hua. Gi-swab, so PCR (polymerase chain reaction). Ang resulta negative, apan lagi kay di pa man na accredited, so gipa-testing og balik didto gi-run sa laboratory sa Vicente Sotto. Negative gihapon, so twice negative,” Garcia said.

“But taas man kaayo iyang hilanat, pagkuha sa iyang blood sample, dengue diay. In fact, ang iyang platelet nanaug to about 18 thousand na lang. But thanks to God sa iyang medical attention ngadto sa Chong Hua, plus miinom og mangagaw (milkweed) ug buwak sa kapayas laki (papaya) nga giandam sa usa sa atong very loyal and trusted friend nga si Cheryl Ouano, ug sa anti-dengue medicine nga iyang gi-take, he is now out of the hospital and is already declared recovered,” She narrated.

The governor pointed this out so as to allay impression that she is downplaying Covid-19.

“This is to emphasize the fact nga dengue is just as real and is just as dangerous. I am not saying less dangerous ang Covid apan hinumduman nato naa sad diay dengue nga mismo ang akong chief-of-staff naigo,” she added.

“Ako, salamat sa Ginoo, buhi pa. Nia pa. Wa ko’y Covid. Kadtong nangandoy nga ma-Covid ko, ako ra gyud ikaingon – you wish! Apan wa gihatag ang inyong gipangayo. Kay tingali daghan pa kong buluhaton para sa Probinsya sa Sugbo. Ug mas daghan ang nagkinahanglan nako,” Garcia said.

The governor also thanked those who continued to express their support for her and her administration.

“Mao na sa akong mga pinalangga kaayo nga mga lumalaban, salamat gyud kaayo sa inyong pagtuo kanako, sa inyong paglaban kanako. Kay kamo gyu’y naghatag nako’g kusog nga padayunon kining akong tinguha nga alang sa atong Probinsya sa Sugbo. Naningkamot gyud ta alang sa Probinsya kay nasayod ko ang kalisud inyo ning natagamtam ron. Nangita ta’s tanang paagi nga maalibyo ang maong kalisud,” she further said.

“Balansehon na nato, gani nalipay ko nga ang kagamhanang nasyonal – ang National Government – mi recognize na nga kinahanglan na nato salbahon ang atong ekonomiya. Life equals livelihood. Livelihood equals lives. Busa, join me in our efforts nga mabangon nato ang ekonomiya sa Sugbo,” Garcia called on. (Eleanor Valeros)
