With Cebu Province’s tourism back again after its seven-month long hiatus, the Municipality of Asturias held TINDAK 2020: A Fun Biking and Endurance Challenge on Sunday, November 29, a National Bicycle Day.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque and 3rd District Board Member Atty. John Ismael Borgonia graced the awarding ceremony of the fitness tourism event held at Asturias Beach House.

Almost 200 participants joined the 23-kilometer long TINDAK 2020 organized in partnership with a private company and a non-profit organization. The categories include fun bike and pro-race with sub-categories senior and junior.

Garcia, in her speech, thanked JTB Asia Pacific Philippine Corporation led by its president, Hideo Ishizuka, for sponsoring TINDAK 2020 together with the Local Government of Asturias led by Mayor Jose Antonio Pintor and JCI Metro Cebu Uptown for a commendable initiative.

“More than that, ang nakanindot kaayo kay inyo ning gibuhat in support of our tourism efforts. Nahibaw man ta, ang lalawigan sa Sugbo, ang atong mga municipalities og mga syudad kadaghanan niini tourism-based gyud. Daghan kaayo ang naka-panginabuhi tungod sa turismo,” she said.

The governor stressed that because of the lockdown many tourism and business establishments including resorts closed down and in effect, many lost their jobs.

She said it is time to resuscitate the means of livelihood of the Cebuanos.

“Mao niingon ko di nani mahimo. Ibalik nato ang kabuhian sa katawhan kay magsige nalang tag kahadlok sa atong kinabuhi- tinuoray mawad-an og panginabuhi.  Unya sa atong kahadlok sa Covid, dili Covid unya ang kamatyan sa katawhan kun dili gutom,” she added.

Garcia hoped that there will be more initiatives like this to highlight the beauty and adventure Cebu Province can offer.

TINDAK 2020 is timely, Roque said, because President Rodrigo Duterte declared the fourth Sunday of November of every year as the National Bicycle Day in its Proclamation No. 1052

More than sports, cycling also helps build the immune system amidst the pandemic, he added.
