For this year’s Valentines celebration, all towns of the Camotes Group of Islands were showered with blessings, assistance and good news from the Cebu Provincial Government.
The local government units received a total of P44 million in financial assistance on Friday, February 12: P7 million for San Francisco, P11 million for Poro, and P13 million each for Tudela and Pilar.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and 5th District Board Member Andrei “Red” Duterte personally handed the check to the mayors, intended to support their respective infrastructure projects for their constituents.
This is also the governor’s way for Cebuanos to feel and enjoy being in the “richest province of the country.
Mayors Al Arquillano of San Francisco, Greman “Jojo” Solante of Tudela, Edgar Rama of Poro, and Manuel Santiago of Pilar expressed their gratitude to the governor for the assistance they received.
“First time gyud mi nakadawat og ing-ani ka dako nga nikantidad, P11 million. Ubay-ubay nga barangay ang makapahimos niini,” Rama said.

“For the first time, atong mga municipal officials ato na usab giapil sila karon sa atong coverage sa GSIS group accident insurance,” Garcia said.
Mayors have insurance coverage worth P500,000, P400,000 for vice mayors, and P300,000 for councilors.
The governor also increased the coverage for barangay workers.
From P100,000, barangay captains are now insured with P200,000 coverage.
Barangay kagawads’ coverage increased from P60,000 to P150,000 while that of the BHWs, BNS, BAHAs, daycare workers, tanods, barangay secretaries, and treasurers is now at P100,000 from P50,000.
Garcia said 10 percent of the insurance plan can be reimbursed if they will be hospitalized.
Aside from the insurance plans, barangay workers also received food packs, vitamins, as well as lemonsito seedlings and vegetable seeds during the event.
“Again, magpasalamat gyud ko, kinasing-kasing nakong pasalamat sa atong gobernador sa walay hunong nga pagtabang kanamo. Bulahan ta adunay leader nga parihas ni governor nga nagtan-aw gyud sa pangnginahanglan sa atong mga lungsod,” Rama expressed. (Mylen Manto)
